About Me

My name is Lucy Colclough and I've recently graduated with a first class degree in Spanish and History from the University of Southampton.

I spent my year abroad in Madrid working as an intern in an art museum and then as a bookseller in Casa del Libro. I decided to start this blog mainly to keep a record of what I got up to and to share my photos and stories with friends and family. I also hope that it will be of interest to anyone thinking of going to Madrid for their year abroad in the future. I've been posting any advice I think might be useful about accommodation, transport etc. I hope it will become the resource I never had.

During my time abroad I had to complete an extended project for my university called a Year Abroad Research Project or YARP. I chose to focus mine on the café culture of the 1920s and the reasons why cafés were so important to the avant garde movement in Spain during this decade. This meant I got to spend lots of time in old cafés listening to jazz and watching the world go by (whilst doing important research obviously...).

Now I'm back in good old England I've decided to keep up my blog and use it to record my more recent travel adventures with stories and photos from the trips abroad I've been lucky enough to go on. I love travel writing and photography and am also currently looking to broaden my portfolio by submitting work to magazines and other travel websites.

If you have any questions regarding living in Madrid as a student or your year abroad just leave them in the comments and I'll try and get back to you as soon as possible.

I hope you enjoy reading all about my travel adventures!
